Updates from around the club:
A few projects and maintenance items completed last week.
As you may know a couple of seasons ago, we experimented with some Zoysia on #4 tee. This tee suffers from extreme shade issue and only receives about 3-4 hours of sun per day during the winter (high traffic) months, Bermuda requires a minimum of 8 hours, even Zoysia calls for a minimum of 6! The experiment worked well, and we are, for the most part, happy with how it held up to the winter traffic and weather conditions, however we are having an issue with Bermuda contamination in the Zoysia (dark green patches in pictures below). We have started treatments to remove the Bermuda with a new to market selective herbicide. While it is sold as "non injurious" to the Zoysia only time will tell. If for some reason it does damage the Zoysia we are prepared to strip and re-grass the tee in preparation for the upcoming golf season. So please expect to see some yellowing and large dead/dying spots on this tee as we work to remove the Bermuda contamination. Thank you for your understanding during this transition.
You may have noticed some work completed on #13. First, we removed palmettos that were around the trees in the waste bunker on the right side of the 13 fairway. In addition, we lowered the mound to the left of the cart path and green on 13. In doing this, we were able to bump out the cart path for easier flow of traffic around the green.
Before After
We also did renovations next to the green on #2. This area was deemed extra penal with the palmettos so close to the path and came in play far more often than they should have. We hope you enjoy these little projects we do to help provide our members and guests with the best playing conditions we can.
