UPCC First Field Trip:

On Monday April 10, 2023 UPCC hosted our first ever field trip for 86 fourth graders of Palmetto Elementary. The UPCC staff and LGA volunteers hosted stations for the students that highlighted the different STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) involved in turf management and the golf course. The stations involved proper putting and ball repair to educate the students on how to care for the turf. Demonstration and use of  tools to better understand the soil moisture, temperature, firmness and the different soil levels of turf. The golf course facility department helped students build and personalize birdhouses for the golf course's environmental program. In addition to the stations, students were treated to a three-course meal at the Club's Park Grille, that was donated by UPCC. The LGA presented Palmetto Elementary School teacher Susan Nickerson with a check for $8,000 to fund field trips for the enhancement of the STEM program. The students walked away with knowledge about the golf course, full bellies, and smiles on their faces. The students were gifted a swag bag that was donated from Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) and activity books from The Audubon Society.
